Recreation Division

The Recreation Division is designed for paddlers who want to get out on the water, have fun, and meet fellow paddlers.  Recreation boats are what most people think of first when they hear the words "canoe" or "kayak."  The Recreation Division offers trips and courses but does not involve any competitions.

The Recreation members can paddle any time on their own and/or attend group paddles.

Canoe trips include day trips close to Saskatoon, weekend trips a few hours from the city, and longer trips in northern Saskatchewan and out of province. Most trips require only basic paddling and camping skills. All the trips are organized by SCC members. A trip-planning meeting is usually held a week or two before the trip.

Courses and clinics offered (subject to demand and availability of an instructor) may include learn-to-paddle, beginner and intermediate whitewater techniques, navigation basics, canoe camping, and stroke improvement.

E-mail the Recreation Director if you would like more information. Check out the news page for upcoming events.

In the recreation division, we currently have a mix of canoes and kayaks. Check out this guide to help you pick out a kayak and this guide to help you pick out a canoe.

Recreation Group Paddles

Recreation members are encouraged to come out Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m. to paddle with other members.  There will be at least one experienced person from the club to help newer paddlers out and match up anyone who needs a paddling partner. This is also a good time for experienced paddlers to try out new boats or learn techniques from others.

The speed and distance traveled during a group paddle are based on the skills and goals of the people who show up. We generally spend about an hour an a half on the water.
