There may still be snow on the ground but preparations for the summer are in full swing. We hope to welcome everyone back for another great season.

Registration is open for 2018
The 2018 registration process is open. Just a reminder each adult must complete the quiz for themselves each year as part of the annual orientation. To register for 2018 follow the directions at https://www.saskatooncanoeclub.org/panopoly/registration/registration-ov...

Boathouse Clean Up Sat. May 5th. 9:00 a.m. until finished
Join us Saturday morning to help clean up the boathouse and get it all ready for the open house the following day. There will be fun times and tunes. See you there.

Open House Sun. May 6th 12:00-4:00 p.m.
Open House is a perfect spring start to reconnect with fellow paddlers over a free burger and activities.
Volunteers are needed to make this day great. Do you like to flip burgers and/or veggie burgers? Do you like helping with set-up/take-down? Do you like to facilitate games, like the throw bag toss? Shifts are for one hour and we need roughly three people on the grill at the time. If you have BBQ tools, bring them along. Please email social@saskatooncanoeclub.org to volunteer for one (or more!) of the shifts.

Aside from volunteering, there will be all sorts of activity at the boathouse Sunday for our Open House. It’s the perfect time to do your bouthouse tour and pick up your 2018 membership card for the new paddling season. Meet other members, SCC board members, and volunteers. Have a free hamburger or hotdog. Check out some of our community supporters. The Prairie Lily will be giving people free tours from our dock that day. We’ll have a little throw-bag station so that you can practice your safety skills land-side (and show off your amazing aim). All-round, it’ll be a fun day.

Club Sponsored Mini Training Courses
In 2018, Saskatoon Canoe Club will be offering a series of mini training courses free of cost for members who would like to improve their paddling confidence and technique.
The mini courses will be operated by Outdoor Experience and will include 2 separate 3 hour lessons with certified instructors in a still water environment. These will be offered on a first come first served order based on capacity and availability of the instructors.
Sign-up for courses will be coming soon, you will be able to find information and sign-up tool directly on our homepage.

River Safety Weekend May 5th & 6th
In conjunction with Transport Canada’s Office of Boating Safety, a diverse group of river users including the SCC, the Prairie Lily, other paddling/rowing clubs, the police, and the fire department are organizing events to promote river safety. Sat. May 5th there will be a series of safety and rescue demos on the water and shore at River Landing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are comfortable doing T-rescues, self rescues, etc. and would like to help the SCC contribute to these demos, contact john.m@saskatooncanoeclub.org. On Sun. May 6th the activities will be centred at our open house from noon to 4 p.m., with the Prairie Lily offering free tours from the end of our dock. There will also be an extremely rare in-person appearance of Transport Canada marine officials to answer all your safety and regulatory questions.

Introductory Half Day Trip with Franny Rawlyk
Saturday May 12 - Fred Heal Canoe Launch to Saskatoon, 1/2 day trip.
(Room for 12 travelers)

Join us for a group paddle into Saskatoon from Fred Heal Canoe Launch.
Saturday, we plan to meet at The Boathouse at 9am and gear up and load all 6 canoes, then we'll travel to Fred Heal Canoe Launch. We should be on the water by 10am and it takes about 3-5 hours (20.5 km paddle) to paddle in, depending on weather and stops. We will coordinate carpooling in advance, leaving one or two vehicles in order to then drive back out to get the cars from the launch site.

We intend this to be a family-friendly, beginner-friendly paddle with a few stops and some floating time, so we will take our time and enjoy the scenery! There will also be a brief intro to paddling strokes at the beginning for those of you who are newer paddlers. In the event of extreme weather, we’ll also reschedule.

Bring your own food (lunch & snacks), water and supplies.

(A fee of $5 per adult for use of the club equipment also applies to this trip. All travellers must be 2018 SCC members to participate.)

Email Franny Rawlyk frawlyk@gmail.com if you’re interested in joining us!
