SCC AGM 5:45 p.m. April 9th

The Saskatoon Canoe Club invites you to attend our annual general meeting at 5:45 p.m. on April 9th in the basement meeting room of JS Wood Library at 1801 Lansdowne Ave.  All are welcome to attend, however you must have registered for the 2019 season in order to vote. We will have some pizza and drinks available starting at 5:45 p.m. We will be electing the executive for the upcoming year and voting on some minor amendments to our constitution and bylaws.  The details of the proposed amendments, the 2018 financial statements, and reports from the 2018 executive will be made available in a subsequent email at least 15 days prior to the AGM.

Draft AGM Agenda:

        5:45 Registration and pizza/drinks

        6:00 Call to order

        6:01 Approval of agenda

6:03 Review of 2018 AGM minutes

        6:30 Review 2018 financial statements / 2019 budget

7:00 Discussion and vote on proposed amendments to the SCC constitution and bylaws

7:25 Discussion and vote on other advance motions

        7:30 Election of 2019 executive

        8:00 Adjournment

All executive positions are open for nomination.  We are in particular need of candidates for membership director and member-at-large.  The membership director oversees the operation of the online registration and orientation system; works with the executive, club volunteers, and employees to develop and operate the boathouse tour program; and responds to membership-related requests for information.  Members-at-large assist the rest of the executive with the management and leadership of the club. As a member-at-large, you can pick which areas/projects to focus your time on according to your interests, availability, and the needs of the club. In recognition of their service to the club, all executive members receive a free membership for the SCC division of their choice in the year following their term served.  If you are considering letting your name stand for election to the executive, you are encouraged to contact president@saskatooncanoeclub.org.

CKS AGM March 23rd, at 10 am

Our provincial sport governing body, Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan (CKS), will be holding its AGM on Saturday March 23rd at the Sask Sport building in Saskatoon (510 Cynthia St.) at 10 am.  Part of every SCC membership fee is a CKS membership (Rec. Div.: $15, Marathon Div. or both divisions: $20).  Collectively, this represents a substantial financial contribution from our club to CKS, so it is important for CKS to hear yourviews on how it should use your money.  The best way to do this is to attend the CKS AGM.  The SCC makes up about three quarters of CKS’ total members, so we have the power to change CKS for the better, but this is unlikely to happen unless enough of us vote at their meetings.

River Safety Day May 4th

In conjunction with many other river user groups and related agencies, the SCC will be participating in the 2nd Annual River Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sat. May 4th at River Landing.  We are looking for volunteers to demonstrate T-rescues, throw-bag rescues, various kayak rescues, etc. We are also seeking volunteers willing to take photos/videos. Click here for an overview of last year’s event.  Contact john.m@saskatooncanoeclub.org if you are interested in helping out.

SCC Open House May 5th

Join us at the boathouse from noon to 4 p.m. May 5th as we kick off the SCC’s 46th season.  Buy a membership online beforehand, then stop by to receive your boathouse tour and membership card, enjoy some food at our free BBQ, and check out what our club supporters have to offer.
