The following newsletter was intended to go out May 2, 2018, however due to technical difficulties went out later.

Hello happy paddlers!

We are excited to welcome the paddling season! The boathouse docks went in today afternoon. The ice flows are gone and you may start paddling.

Registration reminder
Nice weather and no ice? That means you need to get your membership and get on the water. Registration is open and you can purchase your memberships here: https://www.saskatooncanoeclub.org/panopoly/registration/registration-ov... so don’t wait!

River Safety Demonstrations - Saturday 11-4
The City of Saskatoon has proclaimed this Saturday and Sunday as River Safety Weekend. A group of river user organizations including the SCC are gathering to present a Public Demo & Participation Day on Sat. May 5th. All the events will take place on water and shore at River Landing, so come see a 37-person auto-inflating life raft being deployed, get a tour of Saskatoon Search and Rescue’s command trailer, and watch a variety of canoe, kayak, and man-overboard rescue demonstrations! It will be a great chance to learn how you can be more safe on the river and for you to meet some of the groups and individuals working to keep the river a safe place. https://saskatooncanoeclub.org/panopoly/sites/default/files/river_safety...

We need a few more paddlers to help with the canoe/kayak rescue demos, either as rescuers or hardy rescuees. You would need to be available from about 1:15 to 3:30 p.m. Email john.m@saskatooncanoeclub.org ASAP if you can help.

Open house - Sunday noon to 4pm
Don’t forget that our Open House is this Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to do your boathouse orientation, meet other paddlers, have a burger, and maybe even practice your throwbag toss. Lots of club supporters will be there -- we hope to see you out.

We do still require a few volunteers to help flip some burgers, so please sign up using this doodle poll if you can spare some time: https://doodle.com/poll/2taa9i5aqqksxc9f Thanks.

Volunteers needed
Speaking of volunteers, our club wouldn’t exist without the help of volunteers. Please consider helping out by running some orientations, monitoring the boathouse or leading a new trip. If you’re curious but not sure what’s involved, email membership@saskatooncanoeclub.org

Group Paddles
If you want to meet some new paddlers and maybe brush up on some of your paddling skills, our group paddles are a great opportunity for you. You don’t need a paddle partner, just show up and enjoy some time out on the water. They are every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for the Recreation Division. For the Marathon Division they are Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Report equipment damage
When you are finished paddling and are washing your boats out, please make note of any damage to the boats that you may see and report it to our equipment managers at equipment@saskatooncanoeclub.org . Don’t worry if you were the source of that damage or not. We try to make sure that our gear is in good condition so you help everyone out by reporting damages.

Sale of marathon boat
A heads up that the Marathon Division will be selling a fiberglass C1 for $400. The ad will go up on Kijiji Saskatoon under “Buy and Sell: Sporting Goods & Exercise” at 6pm Sunday, June 3. The first person to respond and pay for the boat will get it.

Recreation - Courses
Saskatoon Canoe Club has partnered with Outdoor Experience to provide novice members the opportunity to receive canoe training by certified professionals in a still water environment.
The Mini Course signup is now open – www.picatic.com/SCC2018
A $40 ticket deposit will be held until completion of both days of the course.
You can find additional information on our website under the courses tab.
The spots available are first come first serve. More may be available later in the year depending on demand.

Boathouse Clean Up Sat. May 5th. 9:00 a.m. until finished
Join us Saturday morning to help clean up the boathouse and get it all ready for the open house the following day. There will be fun times and tunes. See you there.
