Petition: River User’s Safety on the South Saskatchewan River
Members and interested Paddlers,
The Saskatoon Canoe Club has partnered with several clubs in Victoria Park in organizing a Petition for action from the City of Saskatoon and the Meewasin Valley Authority regarding the plans to relocate the motorized boat launch to Victoria Park.
They have made these plans without taking non-motorized river users (our) safety into consideration.
In a City of Saskatoon Survey, over 40% of respondents said “No” to a launch located in Victoria Park.
This was the highest negative response.
There is a lack of transparency and information available regarding this project from both the City and MVA.
This lead to the creation of this petition.
Our Request,
We request that the City immediately release the River Access Study report. Furthermore, given the City and the MVA’s lack of data on the river traffic conditions and limitations, we strongly assert that the City engage qualified professionals to study the capacity of the river and determine the safest way to handle increased motor boat traffic. Unbiased assessments and the impact of the various launch site options on the safety of all river users must also be included.
