The following newsletter was sent to all members Jule 25th
Hi fellow paddlers,
Sorry for sending double newsletter but last Power Stroke missed some relevant information for the coming trips. Pay attention to this, then you want to participate on our day paddles from Fred Heal.
Interested in meeting and/or joining the SCC board?
8 p.m., Tuesday July 30th, Amigos Back Room
The SCC board will be having their board meeting on July 30th in the back room at Amigos. Join us at 8 p.m. for a meet and greet to ask questions about what it's like to be on the board (and maybe even join!) We are currently looking for new hands and heads for several board positions. We are especially looking to fill the vacant positions of (i) membership director and (ii) kayak equipment manager. For more info email president@saskatooncanoeclub.org
Upcoming Club Trips
Fred Heal Canoe Launch to Saskatoon Day Trips: August 3rd and 24th
We have two more daytrips planned from Fred Heal Canoe & Kayak Launch (near Beaver Creek) back to Saskatoon. This trip is approximately 20 km (3-5 hour) of paddling from the launch to Saskatoon. It’s a scenic trip with plenty of bird life along the way, and we’ll stop for one or two breaks on the sandbars to have lunch and stretch our legs. Although this is not a difficult trip, paddlers should be capable of paddling at a moderate pace for a few hours at a time and manage their canoe or kayak in a breeze.
If you have any questions about your abilities and the suitability of this trip for you, please feel free to contact Bryan (bryan.s@saskatooncanoeclub.org) for the August 3rd trip or Shay (shay.c@saskatooncanoeclub.org) for the August 24th trip.
We will carpool to the launch and use club’s canoe & kayak trailer to haul our boats. Depending on the number of participants, we may need volunteers to drive their vehicles to Fred Heal Canoe & Kayak Launch, and we will need someone at the end to drive the drivers back to their vehicles at the launch to complete the shuttle.
In order to register and hold hour spot on the trips, please use the following forms rather than emailing us directly:

Recreation Group Paddles
Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Sundays at 10:30 am. All levels are welcome.
August 1st (Thursday) Recreation group paddle will have a basic kayak rescue/ self rescue practice. This practice and demonstration will be led by Bryan, who besides being one of the people working in the boathouse this year, is a Paddle Canada kayak instructor and operator of Coldspring Paddling Instruction. All are welcome so feel free to join if you want to gain a little confidence wet exiting (learning that falling out is no big deal) and playing around with the kayaks while learning how to get back in without going to shore. Dress to get wet! :) The river is warm and slow right now so it’s perfect conditions for playing around in and on the water learning our rescues. There are no prerequisites other than a willingness to get wet and to challenge yourselves.
Contact Bryan: bryan.s@saskatooncanoeclub.org for more info.
