The following email was sent only to recreation members who opted in to general club communications on July 29 2020.

Hello SCC Recreation Division members:

This notice is to inform you about four upcoming club trips from Fred Heal Canoe Launch to the boathouse.  The trips will take place on Sunday Aug. 2nd (morning), Sunday Aug. 9th (morning), Friday Aug. 14th (evening), and Wednesday Aug. 19th (morning).

For these day trips, the group will meet at the boathouse to load equipment, drive the short distance to the Fred Heal Canoe Launch south of the city, and then paddle back to the boathouse.  The distance on the river is about 20 km, and depending on the river flow rate, the weather, and the group's paddling speed it will take about 3.5 to 4.5 hours to get back to the boathouse.

It is expected that all participants are self-sufficient on the water and have the ability to paddle continuously for 3-4 hours.  The day trips are not intended to be lessons but rather an opportunity to paddle together as a group. All participants are expected to adjust their speed so that the group does not spread out too much.

It is up to you to arrange your own ride from the boathouse to Fred Heal Canoe Launch.  With COVID-19, we do not want people from different extended household groups/bubbles to carpool together.  The easiest solution is to get somebody from your bubble who is not going on the trip to take you from the boathouse to the put-in.  SCC staff will transport the boats to the put-in.

Participants must register in advance for these trips using the following links:

Aug. 2th: Meet at the boathouse at 8:45 a.m. Sign up here.

Happy Paddling!
